Favorite Friday: location of the week Paco Ciao
Be quick before this bird has flown! Paco means in Spanish: “free man.” This location honors its name. Paco Ciao has been 2019 back as a pop-up location in Leiden. Since November 2018, Paco has been a member of the same hip family with the beach bars: Tulum, Witsand and Branding/Winterlodge in Noordwijk and Hippie Fish in Zandvoort.
Paco Ciao is in a great central place, just in front of the Stationsplein of Leiden. As you walk into the city, you’ll see a beautifully large mansion built in the Neo-French Renaissance style.
The façade is full of ornaments, reliefs and lists in the stone. If you walk by, you wouldn’t think what kind of cool restaurant hidden behind this. If you pass the beautiful large wooden doors and atmosphere lanterns with burning candles walk in, turn left and you will come in some kind of bedroom room.
You’ll see a bohemian canopied bed and a dresser with an old-fashioned TV and atmosphere candles. On the right you can see an antique wooden wardrobe with mirror door. A very special entrance, which makes you doubt whether you’re okay. On the other hand, stimulates the entrance to take another step to enter! I did the cabinet door and ended up in the hallway and reception room with the recognizable bohemian wooden parasol with white cloth and fringes, which you can see at any location of this family of restaurants. If you walk through you end up in the restaurant, what a warm atmosphere.
The restaurant is divided into 3 rooms, which overlap. You enter into a cozy spacious living room with tables and chairs and sofas at the edges. There is also a cosy lounge corner created by the really burning fireplace. In the back is the bar with some standing tables and here is also a lounge corner. Very surprising and distinctive I find the authentic Renaissance-style conservatory with French doors with a beautiful glass oval dome roof. The conservatory that runs in an oval also has approx. 20 seats.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be enjoyed at the restaurant. It is an ideal location to eat a bite and you can also flex work here because the different corners that have been created. Whatever here, by the way, a lot of is done. It’s a real meeting place, where you soon feel at home because of the living room feeling, which it evokes to me. I came here with a business appointment, which was also impressed by this location. These hidden location is just too nice not to share with others.
Detail is being paid attention. We ordered fresh tea and this one was served with tea in sieve, temperature gauge and hourglass with a delicious cake. I’ve never experienced this before, yes maybe with a real teahouse. Tea must meet a certain temperature and the one tea you need to longer than the other. In between we were stimulated with fresh juice shots and pieces of cake, which we were offered and are also on the map. They do this service at all locations with appropriate drinks and food what is normal at the time of the day.
Actually, the locations also serve as a showroom. The owner has a own furniture line: Ibiza Outdoor. At any location, you can buy the most furniture and accessories items. How cool is that?
I don’t know how long this pop-up hotspot is still there, but it’s definitely a must!
